Just the thought of embarking on a hypnotherapy journey can be a little scary if you have never experienced it before. It can also be really exciting!! Here are a few tips to assist in creating a great experience with hypnotherapy.

Ask For a Consultation

This is generally referred to as a Discovery or Introductory Call. It is about 20 to 30 minutes and gives you and the therapist time to ask several questions. These are meant to help guide your healing program, not be judgmental. Remember:

  • Be open and honest with your past experiences and current expectations. This helps tailor the sessions to your specific needs.

  • Get clear on what your goals are before the call. This is all about what you want to accomplish.

  • You need to feel comfortable, confident, and trusting of the hypnotherapist. If after the conversation you don't feel "the vibe" with the person, thank them for their time and continue your search.

Choose between an In-Person or Virtual Session

Sessions can be conducted either in person or virtually. Some providers have even gone to a remote model for their business. There are upsides and downsides to both. The most important is that you decide how you would like to experience this new process personally.

In Person:

  • In person gives you the opportunity to disconnect from everything while at the therapist's office. This can assist in getting to the fully relaxed, hypnosis state.

  • An off-site location can also provide a neutral space if there is conflict at home.

  • Downside is that you have to drive afterwards, which could take you out of a relaxed state more quickly.

Virtual:

  • A virtual session will allow you to be in your familiar surroundings and become more relaxed.

  • When it is completed, you can just "chillax" and process in the comfort of your own home. No rude drivers to take you out of Zen Mode.

  • Some challenges may happen if you have pets, family, or other distractions that you are not able to detach from at home. This means you can't ever fully relax - even at home.

One of the biggest benefits of having a virtual session is that it can be recorded for you to use again and again.

Check For Any Doubts

Hypnotherapy can be a very powerful healing tool when you truly believe that it is. If there are any doubts about the process or what comes out of the session, it can lead to a lack of success. As you begin the exploration mode, ask yourself:

  • Do I associate hypnosis with someone making me cluck like a chicken?

  • Am I afraid that I am going to say something that is embarrassing?

  • Will I hold back because I fear what I may find out?

Be honest with yourself on the answers. They could also be great questions for the therapist during your Discovery Call. You can also research more through online resources the success rate of hypnosis across many different modalities.

Be Courageous

After observing many individuals experience healing through insights obtained during hypnosis, I can highly recommend it. Put any doubts aside and be courageous and, at the very least, be open to exploring the possibility of adding hypnotherapy to your current program for health and well-being.
